Intro to Trauma-Sensitive Yoga & Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Nidra

This YACEP accredited weekend course with senior teacher Nina Vukas (E-RYT 500, RPYT, C-IAYT) offers yoga teachers a 13-hour immersion in trauma-sensitive practices, with hours counting toward a 300-hour teacher training coming at SOMA in 2025/2026. This course provides essential skills to enhance safety, accessibility, and healing in yoga, making it impactful for all students. You can book the full weekend or single days.

Participants will receive two of Nina's books, Safe Space: Trauma-Sensitive Yoga and Embodied Calm: Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Nidra.

On Saturday, the course explores the fundamentals of trauma-informed yoga teaching, focusing on creating safer, inclusive spaces. Sunday dives into trauma-sensitive Yoga Nidra, blending restorative poses and trauma-sensitive techniques to foster deep relaxation.

Saturday | Introduction to Safe Space: Trauma-Sensitive Yoga

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga lecture

In the lecture, we will cover the basic principles of teaching yoga in a trauma-informed way, which will help you create safer spaces that support healing, cultivate trust, and allow each participant to feel seen and respected. We’ll explore techniques for cueing, language, choices etc., all designed to encourage choice, empowerment, and personal agency in your students. This approach can make your teaching more inclusive, sensitive, and accessible to everyone, whether or not they have a trauma background.

While this is only an introductory lesson, not covering everything we offer at Spanda Institute's Safe Space Trauma-Sensitive module, you’ll leave with valuable insights into trauma, the nervous system, and essential tools for creating safer spaces.

Flow into Embodiment Yoga Class

Using the principles of Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, this class is designed to guide you to connect deeply with your body/mind through mindful movement, breath, mudras, meditation and chanting, allowing each asana and vinyasa to become a pathway to self-discovery.

Through flowing sequences and intentional pauses, we’ll cultivate a state of embodied presence, where each movement reflects a deeper connection to yourself. We’ll close the class with chanting, deepening our connection to ourselves and each other.

Sunday | Embodied Calm: Trauma Sensitive Yoga Nidra

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Nidra workshop

This workshop is designed for yoga teachers who wish to deepen their understanding of trauma-sensitive principles in the context of Yoga Nidra. Whether you’re looking to adapt the traditional Yoga Nidra practice you already teach, or are interested in learning how to guide Yoga Nidra sessions with a trauma-informed approach from the start, this workshop offers practical tools and insights. You’ll gain skills to create a safe, supportive environment that respects each participant’s unique journey, making the practice accessible, empowering, and healing for all students, regardless of their background or experience.

Embodied Calm Yoga Class

This deeply nourishing class combines an hour of gentle, restorative yoga with 30 minutes of Embodied Calm Yoga Nidra, creating a powerful space for relaxation and nervous system regulation. Using trauma-sensitive principles, we’ll create a safe, welcoming environment that encourages rest, release, and reconnection with the body. The restorative yoga poses are designed to support the body in a state of ease and gentle opening, while the guided Yoga Nidra practice offers an opportunity to reach profound states of calm and clarity. This class is an invitation to slow down, unwind, and restore the balance within.
