Overview
This 5-week course introduces beginners to the foundational practices of mindfulness and meditation. Designed to ease participants into the world of meditation, it offers practical techniques to cultivate mindfulness, reduce stress, and develop inner calm.
Each week builds upon the last, guiding participants through mindful breathing, body awareness, thought observation, and loving-kindness meditation. By the end of the course, participants will have the tools to establish a sustainable meditation practice and integrate mindfulness into their daily lives.
Course Structure
Duration: 5 weeks
Session Length: 60-75 minutes per session
Sessions per Week: 1 session + optional daily practices (10-15 minutes)
Materials: Course guide, guided meditation selection, journaling prompts, and mindfulness exercises
Weekly Breakdown
Week 1: Introduction to Meditation & Mindful Breathing
Theme: Setting Foundations for Stillness
Principles of meditation and debunking common myths
Attitudes of Mindfulness
The breath & practice of mindful breathing to anchor the mind in the present moment
Focus on creating a comfortable meditation space and preparation
Homework: Daily mindful breathing (5-10 minutes), journaling on the experience
Week 2: Body Awareness & Body Scan Meditation
Theme: Cultivating Connection to the Present Moment
Exploring the body-mind connection through body awareness practices
Guided body scan meditation to promote relaxation and awareness of physical sensations
Homework: Daily body scan & breathing meditation (10 minutes), journaling on body sensations
Week 3: Working with Thoughts & Emotions
Theme: Embracing a Non-Judgmental Mindset
Learning to observe thoughts and emotions without attachment or judgment
Reaction vs. Response, What we resist Persists
Practice of thought-observing meditation, allowing emotions to arise and pass naturally
Homework: Daily guided meditation (10 minutes), journaling on thought patterns
Week 4: Loving-Kindness Meditation & Creating a Sustainable Practice
Theme: Cultivating Compassion for Self and Others
Introduction to Loving-Kindness (Metta) meditation, fostering compassion for self and others
Developing a sustainable mindfulness practice, integrating mindfulness into daily life
Homework: Daily Metta meditation (10-15 minutes), journaling on compassion and gratitude
Week 5: Everyday Mindfulness
Theme: Bringing Mindfulness into Daily Life
Exploring how to incorporate mindfulness into daily activities such as eating, walking, and communicating
Guided practice of mindful walking or mindful eating to deepen presence in routine tasks
Tips and techniques for integrating mindfulness into work, relationships, and personal time
Homework: Daily guided meditations & 2 times mindful walking or eating, journaling on how mindfulness transforms everyday activities
Course Completion
By the end of the course, participants will have a foundation in mindfulness meditation techniques such as mindful breathing, body scanning, emotion and thought observation and awareness. They will have the tools and knowledge to continue their meditation practice and integrate mindfulness into their everyday lives.

Cancellations: Please note that we are not able to offer refunds for workshop bookings. You can use the workshop credit for another workshop in the studio or class pass if you provide us with a 14 days notice before the start of a workshop or a course.
Location: SOMA Yoga is nested in the garden of the Battersea Reach complex (SW181TA) inside the bbodance, on the first floor. You can arrive by train to Wandsworth Town station (6’ walk from the studio), by bus (Petergate or Bridgend Road stop, 2’ walk from the studio) or by Uber boat (Plantation Wharf Pier).
Parking: Coming with a car? There is a car park at Battersea Reach (pay per hour) or free parking in Eltringham Street (2’ from the studio) where you are free to park anytime except 3-4 pm.
About the teacher
Pelin has gone through a healing journey in 2018 which not only transformed her health but her life. Since then, she is sharing her learnings on relaxing the nervous system through yoga, breath, and meditation.
She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training by Swara Yoga Academy in Thailand in 2018 and her advanced 100-hour training focusing on “Sequencing and Sadhana” by Meghan Currie in Bali in 2022. She recently got her advanced Yoga Nidra training and certificate from Simone McKay at Somah Journeys in Ireland.
She is amazed by the healing power of breath, and teaches pranayama-focused vinyasa classes, yoga nidra and meditation.
